Heat half of the oil in a pot over medium-high heat.
Once heated, add the beef cut into strips and sear on the sides over medium heat, it will take approximately 4-5 minutes.
Meanwhile, peel and grate the carrot. Chop the garlic and slice the mushrooms.
Remove the beef from the pan and add the remaining oil along with the garlic, carrot and mushrooms. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add the rice and brown for a minute with the stir-fry. Season with turmeric or curry and salt and pepper.
Add water to cover (about twice the amount of rice) and bring to a boil.
Cover and cook for 15-17 minutes over low heat until rice is done. Stir from time to time and, if needed, add water to prevent sticking.
Once the liquid has evaporated and the rice is well cooked, turn off the heat. Adjust seasoning and serve hot.
